SiR - Her Too

I first heard SiR featured on a Little Simz song ‘Picture Perfect’. It was one of the catchier songs on the album, Stillness in Wonderland, and the addition of his smooth sexy vocals took it to the next level. I immediately took note to remember him. His most recent EP, Her Too, has a jazzy, pulsing mood. The six-song EP is filled to the brim with good vibes and a steamy atmosphere.

It starts off with ‘New L.A.’, featuring King Mez and the glorious vocals of Anderson .Paak. This one is upbeat with a nice combination of pop and hip-hop. The synths float in the background giving the song a brightness that reflects the vibe of sunny L.A. The vocals have the perfect amount of reverb and King Mez's rap gives it even more of a beachy quality.

SiR has a way of making you feel cool and sexy when he sings. ‘The Canvas’ is a love song where he visualises painting as love. He sings “you’re such a work of art...I’m just here to add a little color to the canvas.” His lyrics are inspired by love and sexuality and it’s self-indulgent. For example, he starts ‘Oh Nah Nah’ with “Your heartbeat woke me up this morning//Still got the taste of you on the tip of my tongue.”

The seductive lyrics are met with blues-inspired guitar, grooving beats, and subtle backing vocals that help to emphasize certain words. From beginning to end, Her Too is inviting, drawing you in to get lost in SiR’s world. The songs are composed thoughtfully with the right amount of variation. This EP is definitely worth a listen. Make sure to also check out the prequel to the EP, Her.
